# Preliminary prototype bill of materials

**Revision:** 0.1
**Prepared:** 17 August 2026
**Currency:** USD planning allowances unless a source price is stated
**Total planning allowance:** **$327.40** including the UNO Q; **$232.40** excluding a supplied UNO Q

This is an application-stage BOM, not a purchase order or manufacturing quote. Taxes, shipping, import charges, spare parts, tooling, cloud-service usage and test equipment are excluded. Candidate parts remain subject to electrical, software, mechanical, thermal and supply-chain validation.

| # | Category | Item / candidate part | Qty | Prototype estimate | Status and reason |
| ---: | --- | --- | ---: | ---: | --- |
| 1 | Compute | Arduino UNO Q 4 GB, ABX00173 | 1 | $95.00 | **Specified platform.** Official page lists 4 GB LPDDR4, 32 GB eMMC, Debian on the QRB2210 and an STM32U585 MCU. The official store price observed was €82.90; USD value is a planning allowance. |
| 2 | Multimedia carrier | Arduino UNO Media Carrier, ASX00083 | 1 | $23.00 | **Prototype candidate / availability risk.** Official documentation exposes MIPI-CSI camera and analogue-audio connections; official store currently labels it “Coming Soon” at €19.89. |
| 3 | Camera | Raspberry Pi Camera Module 2, Sony IMX219, 8 MP | 1 | $25.00 | **Candidate.** The Media Carrier documentation explicitly names IMX219 modules such as Camera Module 2. Physical and software bring-up on UNO Q is still required. This replaces, rather than reuses, the Pi prototype's OV5647 assumption. |
| 4 | Camera cable | 15-pin camera to 22-pin Media Carrier FFC, correct contact orientation | 1 | $4.00 | **Candidate.** Exact cable length and contact orientation must be confirmed from both connectors before purchase. |
| 5 | Display | Adafruit 1.69-inch 280 × 240 ST7789 SPI display, product 5206 | 1 | $17.50 | **Candidate represented dimensionally in CAD, not yet validated.** Published module envelope is 45.8 × 36.8 × 5.4 mm with an approximately 38 × 30 mm visible area. Manufacturer lists 3/5 V logic compatibility and hardware SPI. UNO Q refresh rate, legibility and mechanical fit remain to be tested. |
| 6 | Custom PCB | Aida low-speed control/display PCB, two-layer prototype designed in Fusion Electronics | 1 | $15.00 | **To design and quote.** Revision 0.1 reserves a side-bay envelope rather than an UNO-format top shield; actual layout, fit and PCBWay quotation govern. |
| 7 | PCB components | One off-board multifunction action/back/stop button, dual-pole mute switch, status LEDs, resistors, transistor, connectors, test points and passives | 1 set | $12.00 | **To specify.** The button uses a short harness to the side-bay PCB; manufacturer part numbers and lifecycle status are required before ordering or production costing. |
| 8 | Haptic driver | Adafruit DRV2605L Qwiic breakout, product 2305 | 1 | $7.95 | **Prototype candidate.** I²C/Qwiic path suits early validation. A production revision may integrate the IC after testing. |
| 9 | Haptic actuator | 10 mm coin vibration motor | 1 | $1.95 | **Candidate.** Select voltage/current against the driver and verify mounting noise in the enclosure. |
| 10 | Microphone path | Electret microphone capsule, acoustic boot and 3.5 mm four-pole breakout/harness | 1 set | $8.00 | **Candidate.** The physical switch must disconnect the microphone signal; Media Carrier jack pinout, bias and level need bench validation. |
| 11 | Speaker amplifier | 1 W mono class-D amplifier module, candidate PAM8302 type | 1 | $6.00 | **Candidate.** Connect from Media Carrier line out; validate gain, noise, shutdown behaviour and current draw. |
| 12 | Speaker | 8 Ω, 1 W, approximately 20 mm speaker | 1 | $4.00 | **Candidate.** Matches the concept envelope; final size depends on measured intelligibility and enclosure acoustic testing. |
| 13 | Portable power | Certified commercial 5,000 mAh USB-C power bank with documented 5 V/3 A output | 1 | $30.00 | **Exact model TBC; external in revision 0.1.** Target energy is approximately 18.5 Wh. Confirm supply behaviour, markings, sourcing and applicable airline/operator rules; do not claim universal carry-on acceptance. |
| 14 | Power cable | Short, 3 A-rated USB-C cable with strain relief | 1 | $5.00 | **Candidate.** Length and connector orientation depend on the selected power module and enclosure. |
| 15 | Enclosure | PCBWay PA12 SLS/MJF top, bottom and provisional manual-shutter prototype parts | 1 set | $65.00 | **To design and quote.** The power bank remains external; material, finish, volume, orientation and shipping change the price. |
| 16 | Mechanical hardware | Fasteners, inserts/captured nuts, acoustic mesh, light-pipe material and anti-slip pads | 1 set | $8.00 | **To specify.** Standardise sizes after the first tolerance and assembly review. |

## Cost interpretation

- The UNO Q remains in the BOM even if it is supplied through the hardware programme; supplied hardware does not make its production cost zero.
- The $300 PCBWay contest support is not treated as the total device budget. The current PCBWay-related allowances are $15 for the control PCB and $65 for printed enclosure parts, before quotations, shipping and taxes.
- Prototype breakout boards and hand-made audio harnesses are acceptable for bring-up but are not a credible final 750-unit solution. They must be integrated, standardised or costed as explicit assembly work before any production claim.
- Cloud API charges are operating costs rather than physical BOM items. The final project must document which features require paid services and offer a configurable provider path where practicable.

## Interface rationale

- **UNO Q 4 GB:** selected because Arduino recommends the 4 GB variant for standalone use and its 32 GB eMMC provides room for the Debian application and bounded local data.
- **Media Carrier:** keeps MIPI camera and analogue-audio work on a documented Arduino carrier during prototype bring-up.
- **Custom control/display PCB:** uses only the conventional 3.3 V SPI, I²C and GPIO paths. It occupies a provisional side bay rather than the 0.5 mm display-to-UNO clearance, and gives the Fusion Electronics submission meaningful original circuitry without inventing an unvalidated high-speed carrier.
- **Media Carrier fallback:** if the candidate carrier cannot be procured by the prototype checkpoint, software and interaction bring-up will use Arduino's documented externally powered USB-C dongle path with a USB camera, USB microphone and USB headphones. That fallback is not represented as the final compact enclosure and remains subject to Debian driver and power testing.
- **External commercial power bank:** avoids a custom lithium charge/protection design during the contest and is not represented as fitting inside the 115 × 75 × 28 mm revision 0.1 concept body. The exact pack is deliberately not locked until load and runtime measurements exist.
